Product Description
Samarium(III) chloride CAS 10361-82-7 With High Purity
Samarium (III) chloride (chemical formula: SmCl3) is a chloride of the rare earth metal samarium (III). It is a pale yellow solid. When exposed to humid air, it rapidly absorbs water molecules to form a hexahydrate, SmCl3·6H2O. Simple heating of the hydrate of samarium chloride may result in hydrolysis of a small part of the product. At 110°C, it loses five water molecules. Samarium chloride is a strong lewic acid and is classified as a "hard acid" according to the classification of soft and hard acid-base theory.
Anhydrous samarium (III) chloride is a flux of sodium chloride and calcium chloride, and can also be used to prepare some samarium organometallic compounds, it can also be used to prepare other samarium metal salts.
